Donald Simmons Porter, Sr., age 74, of 316 Indian Hill Road, Millboro, Virginia died Thursday, February 12, 2009 at his residence.

He was born September 22, 1934, a son of the late Fred and Dora Simmons Porter.

He was a 1954 graduate of Millboro High School and served in the United States Air Force.

He retired from Westvaco as a bleachroom foreman after thirty-five years of employment.

He was a life member of the Clifton Forge Rescue Squad, a member of Millboro Ruritan Club, and a member of Windy Cove Presbyterian Church.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Jacqueline Burleson.

He is survived by his wife of fifty-two years, Sandra Hall Porter of Millboro; four daughters: Deborah Darcus of Clifton Forge, Donna Lee and husband, Jathen of Monroe, NC, Deanne Jones and husband, Gerald of Clifton Forge, and Denise Purvis and husband, Glenn of Midlothian; a son, Donald Porter, Jr. and wife, Carla of Camden, NC; two brothers, Ronald "Jack" Porter and wife, Marlys of Reno, NV and Thomas "Tom" Porter and wife, Karen of Millboro; a brother-in-law, R. C. Hall and wife, Nora of Clifton Forge; fifteen grandchildren, twelve great grandchildren, and a number of nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday at 2:00 p.m. in Windy Cove Presbyterian Church, Millboro Springs with Reverend Robert Sherrard officiating.

The family suggests memorial tributes take the form of contributions to Windy Cove Presbyterian Church Memorial Fund, 102 Windy Cove Road, Millboro, 24460.
