Longtime Educator Was World War II Veteran

Keith Royal Shadduck, 81, died Wednesday, February 11, 2009.

He was born on April 13, 1925 in Burlington Junction, Missouri.

He was the son of the late Clyde and Lydia Shadduck.

He was also preceded in death by his sister and brother-in-law, Grace and John Clark; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Edward and Helen Miller, Al and Louise Miller, Marilyn Weldon, Ray Allard; and father and mother-in-law Earl and Ellen Miller.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 63 years, Kathleen Miller Shadduck; daughter and son-in-law, Tania and Charlie Wheeler of Buena Vista, VA; son and daughter-in-law, Ron and Denise Shadduck of Roan Mountain, TN; granddaughter and husband, Kristin and Darrell Stubblefield of Lexington Virginia; granddaughter and husband, Heather and Jonathan Wynn of Roan Mountain, TN; granddaughter, Dora Shadduck of Johnson City, TN; grandsons, Michael and Jesse Shadduck of Roan Mountain, TN; sister and brother-in-law, Phoebe and Emmett Reed of Burlington Junction, MO; brother and sister-in-law, Earl and Mary Shadduck of Delano, CA; sister-in-law, Patricia Allard of Cedar Rapids, IA; brother-in-law, William Weldon of Tampa, FL; a number of much-loved nieces and nephews and a faithful caregiver, Holly Gardner.

Mr. Shadduck was a veteran of World War II, where he served in the Navy. After the war he graduated from Iowa State Teachers College and the University of Colorado.

He was an educator first in Iowa and then as a founding teacher at Riverview High School in Sarasota, FL until his retirement in 1989.

He was a longtime member of the Presbyterian Church of the Palms in Sarasota, FL, until his move to Virginia in 2006 and was a member of St. John's United Methodist Church in Buena Vista until the time of his death.

The funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m., Saturday, February 14, 2009 at St. John's United Methodist Church, with the Rev. John Choi officiating. Burial will follow at Green Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Friday, February 13, 2009 from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his name to the Buena Vista Rescue Squad, the Rockbridge Area Hospice or St. John's United Methodist Church.

Arrangements are being handled by the Bolling, Grose & Lotts Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Buena Vista, Virginia.
