Helen Thacker Jones, 86, of 214 E. Gray Street, Covington, Virginia, died Wednesday, February 18, 2009 at her residence.

Mrs. Jones was born July 29, 1922 in Alleghany County, a daughter of the late Henry T. and Gladys Andrews Thacker.

She retired in 1988 from the Kroger Company in the Meat Department after 30 years of employment.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Robert J. Jones in 2005 and a sister, Shirley Frye, and a brother, Warren Thacker.

Surviving are her son and daughter in law, Bobby and Millie Jones of Covington; one granddaughter, Jennifer Larnerd and her husband, Daniel of Covington ; one grandson, Bailey Matthew Jones of Covington; four great grandchildren, Christopher Larnerd, Roy Sheraton Hall, Brittany Hall and Zachary Larnerd; one sister, Irene Clifton of Hot Springs; a brother-in law, Carl Frye of Falling Springs; and several nieces and nephews.

The funeral service will be held 1:00 p.m. Friday in the Arritt Funeral Home, Covington, Virginia, with the Rev. Dean Clifton officiating .

The interment will follow in Alleghany Memorial Park.

Friends may pay their respects anytime at the Arritt Funeral Home. The family will receive their friends Thursday evening from 7:00 until 8:30 p.m. at the funeral home.
