Jeter Watson School Employee Was Licensed Missionary

Nellie Ruth Carter Barber, 91, of 512 Pine Street, Covington, Virginia, died Tuesday, February 17, 2009 at the Springs Nursing Center in Hot Springs.

She was born August 11, 1917 in Splashdown, West Virginia, a daughter of the late Richard Carter and Mrs. Willie Cater Duncan.

Mrs. Barber was an employee of the former Jeter Elementary School.

She enjoyd her family and was a homemaker. She was a member of the Gospel Tabernacle Church of God in Christ. She was a licensed Missionary, President of the Mother Board, President of the Noon Day Prayer Group and a Prayer Warrior. Mrs. Jones was Head of the Young People's Willing Workers Group and was a former Sunday School Teacher.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Barber was preceded in death by her husband, Walter A. Barber, three brothers and three sisters.

Surviving are her children: Jimmie Barber and his wife, Debbie of Covington; Garland Brown of Fayetteville, NC; Phyllis B. Copeland and her husband, Bruce of Jacksonville, FL; Phillip Richard Barber of Danville and Blenda B. Cooper of Covington; one step daughter, Linda Jeter of Covington; seven grandchildren, ten Great Grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews.

The funeral service will be held 1:00 p.m. in the Gospel Tabernacle Church of God in Christ with Elder Warren L. Hunter, Sr. officiating.

The interment will be made in Cedar Hill Cemetery.

The family will receive their friends anytime at the home of Jimmie and Debbie Barber at 508 Alleghany Ave, Covington, VA 24426.
