Obituary for Maxine McElwee Shinault Maxine McElwee Shinault
Mallow Presbyterian Church Member Dies At Age 90

Maxine McElwee Shinault, 90, of 202 Paynes Grade, Covington, Virginia, died early Monday, February 23, 2009 at the Brian Center in Low Moor.

She was born November 20, 1918 in Hot Springs, a daughter of the late Ollie and Laura Belle Peery McElwee.

Mrs. Shinault was a member of the Mallow Presbyterian Church, the Ladies Bible Class of the church and the Mallow Home Demonstration Club.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Shinault was preceded in death by her husband, Theral Shinault in 1997; a son, Charles Shinault in 2002; two sisters, Emma Lois Burns and Sadie Lee Burns; and two brothers, Gratton McElwee and Welford McElwee.

Surviving are her son and daughter-in-law, Thornton and Peggy Shinault of Covington; three grandchildren, Carlene Olinger and her husband, Kevin of Chesapeake; Janice Overstreet and her husband, Don of Roanoke; Jennifer Lee and her husband, Paul of Covington and Ricky Shinualt and his wife, Angie of Covington; three great grandchildren, Cory Shinault, Megan Shockley and Taylor Overstreet; one great great granddaughter, Hannah Shockley; one sister, Mildred Lowry of Covington; one brother, Winford McElwee of Hot Springs; and several nieces and nephews.

The funeral service will be held Wednesday at 2:00 PM in the Arritt Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Gary Marshall officiating.

The interment will follow in Alleghany Memorial Park.

Friends may pay their respects anytime at Arritt Funeral Home, Covington, Virginia.

The family will receive their friends Tuesday evening from 7:00 until 8:30 p.m. at the funeral home and at other times at the residence of Thornton and Peggy Shinault at 204 Paynes Grade, Covington.

Memorials: The family suggests that memorial donations in Mrs. Shinault's name be made to the Mallow Presbyterian Church, 2004 Mallow Road, Covington, VA 24426.
