William Lee Payne, Sr., 74, of Lexington, died Friday, February 27, 2009 in Roanoke Memorial Hospital.

He was born December 26, 1934 in Lexington, a son of the late Amelia Washington Payne.

Surviving are his children, Marquita Dunn, Lexington; William Payne, Jr. and wife, Yolonda, of Laurel, MD; Francine Nowlin and husband, Kenneth, Lorton, VA; Clifford Payne, Coventry, RI; Karen Payne, Roanoke; and Christopher Payne, Lexington; a brother, James Payne and wife, Carole, Simi Valley, CA; thirteen grandchildren; six great grandchildren; three nieces; seven nephews; and former wife, Ophelia Payne.

A funeral service will be held at 3 p.m. Thursday, March 5, 2009 at Harrison Funeral Chapel with Pastor Jim Harris officiating. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Rockbridge Area Food Pantry.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service on Thursday, March 5, 2009 at Harrison Funeral Chapel, Lexington, VA.
