Longtime Covington Baptist Church Member Dies At Age 86

Mary Marguerite "Marge" Miller Nichols , age 86, of 311 East Fudge Street, Covington, died Monday, March 9, 2009 at her residence.

Born September 3, 1922 in Hinton, West Virginia, Marge was a daughter of the late Earl Brent Miller, Sr. and Cora Belle Harlow.

She was a homemaker throughout her life and a longtime, active member of Covington Baptist Church.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Earl Brent Miller, Jr. and four sisters: Dorothy Pollock, Katherine Golladay, Jeanne Proffitt, and Loree Dew.

She is survived by her husband, Charles Eugene "Charlie" Nichols of Covington; two daughters, Becky Bower of Clifton Forge and Susan Griffith of Elizabeth City, NC; a son, Joel Nichols and wife, Christy of Roanoke; a sister, Marilyn Woods and husband, Tommy of Clifton Forge; a sister-in-law, Elnora Miller of Erlanger, KY; a brother-in-law, Buddy Proffitt of Pearisburg; seven grandchildren: Chase Bower and wife, Gina of Clifton Forge; Austin Griffith of Elizabeth City, NC; Michelle Griffith of Elizabeth City, NC; Matthew Griffith and wife, Christy of Apex, NC; Sally Lauren Nichols of Seattle, WA; Joel Merritt Nichols of Charlottesville; and Mary Kellen Nichols of Roanoke; seven great grandchildren: Trever Bower, Trenton Bower, Reed Griffith, Carter Griffith, Natalie Griffith, Daniel Griffith, and Eve Griffith, and a number of nieces and nephews.

In keeping with her wishes, her body was cremated. A private memorial service will be conducted at a later date.

The Nicely Funeral Home, Clifton Forge, is in charge of arrangements.
