Obituary for Robert G. Lackey Robert G. Lackey
Businessman, Air Force Veteran Served In Europe During World War II

Robert G. Lackey, CMSGT, USAF (Retired) died Saturday, March 14, 2009 at his home in Clearwater, Florida.

He was born at Timber Ridge on December 22, 1919, the son of William Percy Lackey, and Isabelle Stuart Lackey.

He was a 1939 graduate of Fairfield High School.

He proudly served his country for 32 years, first in the Army Air Corps and later the United States Air Force, retiring in 1973. He served in Europe during World War II, including landing at Normandy. Thereafter, he served at numerous stations throughout the United States and abroad, including Japan, Thailand and Iceland.

After retiring from the United States Air Force, he owned and operated three National Automobile Service Centers in Pinellas County, Florida for 10 years, before permanently retiring in 1983.

After retirement he spent, together with his wife of 63 years, Luella Heizer Lackey, every summer at their home in Fairfield, Virginia, where he enjoyed the company of his brothers and sisters, nieces, nephews and other relatives.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and by his brothers, Stuart Lackey, Frank Lackey and Fred Lackey, and by his sisters, Rebecca Mangus, Julia Baxter, and Anna Sterrett.

In addition to being survived by his wife, he is also survived by two sisters, Dorothy L. Straub, of Lexington, Virginia, and Agnes L. Patterson, of Brownsburg, Virginia; by his son, Robert Douglas Lackey and his wife, Joanne Lackey, of Atlanta, Georgia; by his daughter Rebecca Lackey Morgan of Clearwater, Florida; by his two grandsons, a granddaughter, and by two great-granddaughters, as well a numerous nieces and nephews.

The funeral will take place at 11 o'clock, Friday, March 20, at the Old Stone Presbyterian Church at Timber Ridge, with interment immediately following.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Fairfield Rescue Squad, Fairfield, Virginia 24435.

The family will receive visitors from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, March 19, 2009 at Harrison Funeral Home & Crematory, Lexington, VA.
