Obituary for Mildred "Millie" Hayslett Hardy Mildred "Millie" Hayslett Hardy
Former Deputy Commissioner Of The Revenue Of Clifton Forge, Was Longtime Pianist

Mildred "Millie" Hayslett Hardy, age 95, of Roanoke, and formerly of Roxbury Street, Clifton Forge, died Tuesday, March 17, 2009 at Friendship Manor Health Care in Roanoke.

She was born August 2, 1913 in Botetourt County, Virginia, a daughter of the late Ivan Hughes Hayslett and Mabelle Conner Hayslett.

She was a retired Clerk and Deputy Commissioner of Revenue for the City of Clifton Forge.

She was currently a member of Huntington Court United Methodist Church of Roanoke, but formerly was the organist at Walton Memorial United Methodist Church in Clifton Forge. She was a very active member of the Central United Methodist Church, where she served on the Board of the church, was in both the Handbell Choir and the Adult Choir, and was a Sunday School Teacher.

Millie was known for playing the church chimes at the Central United Methodist Church, heard throughout Clifton Forge every day at noon. She had a great love of her church and music.

She was a former member and pianist of the Clifton Forge Kiwanis Club, and had the distinction of being its first female member. She was also a former member of Martha Chapter # 21, Order of the Eastern Star and was active in the Alleghany Highlands Arts and Crafts Center.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Walter Edward Hardy in July of 1978.

She is survived by a son, Benjamin Edward "Bennie " Hardy of Tampa, FL; two grandchildren, Benjamin Edward Hardy II and Yvonne Elizabeth Hardy Pettit; two great grandchildren, Benjamin A. Hardy and Kayla Elizabeth Hardy; a number of nieces and nephews, and her special, close friend, Mrs. Rose Rizer of Roanoke.

A funeral service will be held on Friday at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel of Nicely Funeral Home, Clifton Forge with Reverend W. Pembroke Hall officiating. Interment will follow in Crown Hill Cemetery, Clifton Forge, Virginia. The family will receive friends Friday afternoon one hour prior to the service at Nicely Funeral Home. Friends may call anytime at the funeral home.
