Was Environmental Services Worker For Carilion Health Systems

Joyce Via Patterson (Landrum), age 71, of The Brian Center, Low Moor, died Tuesday, March 17, 2009 at Alleghany Regional Hospital, Low Moor.

Born January 7, 1938 in Alleghany County, Virginia, she was a daughter of the late Willie E. Via and Beulah L. Hite Via.

She was an Environmental Service worker for Carilion Health Systems and a member of Living Stones Ministries, where she worshiped and served her Lord, Jesus Christ faithfully.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Elva Patterson; a son, Richard Blaine Patterson; a daughter, Evelyn Ward; two brothers, Kenneth Via and Richard Samuel Via; a grandson, Richard Brian; and a great granddaughter, Kelly Riley.

She is survived by six daughters, Beulah "Nita" Loving of Millboro; Shirley Ketron and husband, Don of Eagle Rock; Lettie Lynn Patterson of Eagle Rock; Nancy Ann Solomon of Roanoke; Victoria Sorrels and husband, C.R. of Clifton Forge; and Elizabeth Jefferies of Harrisonburg; a son, Roy Thurman Patterson of Roanoke; a foster daughter, Carrie Lou Mattox of Eagle Rock; eighteen grandchildren, twenty-six great grandchildren; a number of nieces and nephews; special friend, Carl Slaughter; and her best friend, Irma Sorrels.

A funeral service will be held on Friday at 11:00 a.m. in the chapel of Nicely Funeral Home, Clifton Forge with Reverend Mike Rollins officiating. Interment will follow in Central Advent Christian Cemetery, Clifton Forge.

Mrs. Landrum's grandsons will serve as pallbearers. The family will receive friends on Thursday evening from 7:00 p.m. until 8:30 p.,. at Nicely Funeral Home and other times at the home of Vicki and C.R. Sorrels, 2508 Grafton Street, Cliftondale Park, Clifton Forge.

The family suggests memorial tributes take the form of contributions to Living Stones Ministries, 100 Griffith Road, Clifton Forge, VA 24422.

The Nicely Funeral Home, Clifton Forge, is in charge of arrangements.
