Obituary for John Walter Hoffman, Sr. John Walter Hoffman, Sr.
Corrections Officer, Was Former H.O. Canfield, Pump Storage Project Employee

John Walter Hoffman, Sr., age 74, of 1715 Jefferson Avenue, Clifton Forge died Wednesday, March 18, 2009 at his residence.

Born November 5, 1934 in Clifton Forge, Virginia, he was a son of the late Harry H. and Mary Elizabeth Crowell Hoffman.

He served in the United States Army and also the Virginia National Guard.

He worked for H.O. Canfield in Iron Gate for twenty-six years, for the Back Creek Pump Storage Project for seven years, and was currently a correctional officer at Augusta Correctional Center in Augusta County, where he had been employed for twenty-two years.

He was a member of the Clifton Forge Presbyterian Church. He was a former member of the Clifton Forge Elks Lodge B.P.O.E. # 1065, and the Clifton Forge Jaycees.

He enjoyed UVA Sports and had a great love of the outdoors, including hunting, fishing, and gardening.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Bill Hoffman.

He is survived by two sons, John W. Hoffman, Jr. and wife, Karen of Troutville and Eddie Hoffman and wife, Ginger of Greenwood; a sister-in-law, Ann Hoffman of Waynesboro; five grandchildren: Kristopher Hoffman, Lauren Hoffman, Ryley Hoffman, Caleb Hoffman, and Leah Hoffman; and a number of nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be conducted on Saturday at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel of Nicely Funeral Home, Clifton Forge with Reverend Paul Brokaw and Mr. Jesse Peck III officiating. Interment will follow in Locust Bottom Cemetery, Glen Wilton.

Pallbearers will be Ricky Fuhrman, Robert Estes, Benji Reinhold, Duane Boothe, Jesse Peck III, Boyd Goodbar, and Roger Reinhold. The family will receive friends on Saturday from 12:00 noon until the time of service at Nicely Funeral Home, Clifton Forge, Virginia.
