Palestine Presbyterian Church Member Dies At Age 71

Virginia Carol Lewis Pearson, 71, of 4511 Indian Draft Road, Covington, Virginia, died Monday evening, April 20, 2009 at Alleghany Regional Hospital.

She was born August 20, 1937 in Alleghany County, a daughter of the late Lee and Edith Birley Lewis.

Mrs. Pearson graduated from Dunlap High School.

She lived in the Richmond area for most of her adult life. After moving back home to Covington she had made her home with her sister, Jo Anna Cooke.

She attended Palestine Chapel Presbyterian Church at Hematite.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Cecil Wilson Pearson; two sisters, Francis Elliott and Gertrude Vail; three brothers, Bill Lewis, Buck Lewis and Haden Lewis; two nieces, Brenda Wells and Cherie Rucka and a nephew, Keven Rider.

Surviving are her four sisters: Jo Anna Cooke and her husband, Julian of Covington; Janet Rider of White Sulphur Springs, WV; Martha Wilkerson and her husband, Bobby of Covington and Charlotte Wilkerson of Wickliffe, KY; two brothers, Robert Lewis and his wife, Winnie of Roanoke and John Lewis and his wife, Yvonne of Covington; a number of nieces and nephews, and her beloved dog Rayne.

The funeral service will be held 11:00 a.m. Friday in the Arritt Funeral Home Chapel.

Interment will be made at the Dale Memorial Park in Chesterfield, VA.

The family will receive their friends Thursday evening from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. in Arritt Funeral Home and at other times at the home of Jo Anne and Julian Cooke at 4511 Indian Draft Road, Covington, Virginia.

The Arritt Funeral Home, Covington, Virginia, is in charge of arrangements.
