Phyllis Tucker Paxton, 88, formerly of Potts Creek Road, Covington, Virginia, died Wednesday evening, April 22, 2009 at The Woodlands in Clifton Forge.

Mrs. Paxton was born October 24, 1920 in Alleghany County, a daughter of the late Walter J. and Clara Tingler Tucker.

She was employed by the former Industrial Rayon Corp.

Mrs. Paxton was preceded in death by her husband, Howard B. Paxton in 1999, a son, Howard B. "Junie" Paxton, Jr. in 2004 and a sister, Ethel Bess and a brother, Walton J. Tucker , Jr.

Surviving are her son and daughter in law, Robert and Violet Paxton of Covington; a daughter-in-aw, Brenda L. Paxton of Covington; two granddaughters, Shannon and Mark Cox of Covington and Missy and Smokey Powell of Seaman, Ohio; three grandsons, Dwayne Paxton and Ronnie and Sandy Paxton of Covington and Dale and Michael Paxton of Jacksonville, FL; eleven great grandchildren: Shane Byer, Kyle Paxton, Justin Paxton, Ben Paxton, Samantha Paxton, Dusty and Heather Hicks, Josh Cox, Courtney Cox, Trevor Cox, Cooper Paxton and Alexandria Coughlan; one great great granddaughter, Brooklyn Hicks; two sisters, Patty Moran and Mary Ellen Wolfe, both of Laurel, MD; Roscoe Tucker of Covington; and several nieces and nephews.

The funeral service will be held 2:00 p.m. Sunday, April 26, 2009 in the Arritt Funeral Home Chapel.

The interment will follow in Lone Star Cemetery.

Friends may pay their respects anytime at Arritt Funeral Home, Covington, Virginia. The family will receive their friends Saturday evening from 7:00 until 8:30 p.m. at Arritt Funeral Home.
