Obituary for Clifford Owen Weigand Clifford Owen Weigand
World War II Veteran Worked With VDH For 18 Years

Clifford Owen Weigand, 86, of Buena Vista, Virginia, died at Kendal at Lexington on April 28, 2009 after an extended bout with cancer.

He was born in Lynchburg, Virginia on October 15, 1922. Owen was the son of the late Willie Gray Weigand Sr. and Etta Sisk Weigand.

He was married for 58 years to Nancy Brown Johnson Weigand.

Nancy preceded him in death in 2006.

Owen is survived by two sons: William A. Wells of Alexandria, VA, and James M. Weigand of Midlothian, VA.

He is survived by three grandchildren: Rebecca A. Wells, Benjaim A. Wells and George D. Haskins, Jr.

Owens also was preceded in death by his granddaughter, Kimberly Elizabeth Wells.

Owens served in the Army Air Corps in World War II.

He was employed as a sanitarian and sanitarian supervisors with the Virginia Department of Health for 18 years. He also worked for the Virginia Air Pollution Control Board as an assistant director for Region C for 12 years.

He was a longtime member of the St. John's Methodist Church in Buena Vista and was a Past Master of The Buena Vista Masonic Lodge No. 186 A.F. & A.M.

A graveside service is scheduled for 2 p.m. on Thursday, April 30, 2009 in the Green Hill Cemetery in Buena Vista, followed by a memorial service at 2:45 p.m. at the St. John's Methodist Church in Buena Vista, with the Rev. John Choi officiating.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Rockbridge Area Hospice or St. John's Methodist Church.

Arrangements are being handled by the Bolling, Grose & Lotts Funeral Home, Buena Vista, Virginia.
