Mary Ann Hlavaty Gaines, age 47, of 5806 Forty-Two Road, Clifton Forge, died Wednesday, April 29, 2009 at her residence.

Born March 28, 1962 in Cleveland, Ohio, she was a daughter of Gertrude Porambo Hlavaty and the late Gerald Hlavaty, Jr.

She was a homemaker throughout her life, and a loving wife, mother, daughter, and sister.

She enjoyed gardening and crafts.

She is survived by her husband, David E. Gaines of the residence; her mother, Gertrude Hlavaty of Millboro; a daughter, Jody Nicole Gaines of Clifton Forge; a step daughter, Olivia Rae Goode of Clifton Forge; two sisters, Beth Nida of Clifton Forge, and Barbara May of New Mexico, and a number of nieces and nephews.

In keeping with her wishes, her body has been cremated. There will be no services at this time. The family suggests memorial tributes take the form of contributions to The American Cancer Society, C/O Karen Buzzard, 807 McCormick Boulevard, Clifton Forge, VA 24422 or to Mountain Regional Hospice Volunteers, P.O. Box 637, Clifton Forge, VA 24422.
