Victory Baptist Church Member Dies At Age 87

Jackson Augusta Slough Sr., 87, of Buena Vista, Virginia, died May 2, 2009 in Heritage Hall.

Mr. Slough was born on April 21, 1922 in Nelson County and was the son of the late Alexander Augusta Slough and Viola Bunch Slough.

He was a member of the Victory Baptist Church.

Mr. Slough is survived by his wife, Elizabeth Pugh Slough of Buena Vista; five children: Jackson A. Slough Jr. and wife, Janis of Lexington; Bonie J. Reed and husband, Harry of Natural Bridge; JoAnn S. Chittum and husband, Tommy of Roanoke; Nancy S. Hayslett of Lexington; Cathy L. Collins of Buena Vista; six stepchildren: Jeter Cash and wife, Judy of Glasgow; Boots Coleman of Grayson, GA; Shirley Foster and husband, Fennie of Natural Bridge; Oakie Cash and wife, Jeanette of Buena Vista; Joyce Spence and husband, Freddie of Buena Vista; Leslie Cash and friend, Donna Carter of Lexington; a sister, Vernelle Walker and husband, Harold of Roanoke; a brother, Lloyd Slough and wife, Bunny of Glasgow; 13 grandchildren; 20 great grandchildren; two great great grandchildren; numerous step grandchildren, step great grandchildren and step great great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. on Monday, May 4, 2009 at the Bolling, Grose & Lotts Funeral Home with the Rev. Dean Staton, the Rev. Donald Stine and the Rev. Michael Wilburn officiating. Burial will follow in the Rockbridge Memorial Gardens. A visitation will be held on Sunday, May 3, 2009 at the Bolling, Grose & Lotts Funeral Home.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.

Arrangements are being handled by the Bolling, Grose & Lotts Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Buena Vista, Virginia.
