Obituary for Lynn Yost Wolfe Lynn Yost Wolfe
Former Lexington Resident Was Renowned Artist, GOP Advocate

Lynn Yost Wolfe, wife of Richard C. Wolfe of Faber, VA. and Waquoit, MA; formerly of Lexington, VA, passed away May 15, 2009 at age 68, following a long battle with throat cancer.

Born in North Carolina to radio-electronics pioneer James R. Yost and Nancy Shaver Yost, Lynn spent her early years following her father to exotic locations such as Manaus, Brazil, pre-Castro Cuba, Eastern Puerto Rico, Oak Ridge, TN.

She received a BS in chemistry from Salem College in North Carolina and Masters in Political Science and Philosophy from Hollins University.

Her expertise as a needlework teacher led her to open the Stitchery Studio in Lexington, which she operated in the 1970s and 1980s. Among her nationally marketed designs was the popular Preppy Handbag.

She was renowned as an artist working in a variety of media, and was especially fond of modern pastel for the freedom of expression it allowed. Her work was exhibited in galleries in Virginia and Massachussetts, including the Barker Gallery on Nantucket Island. While living in Virginia's Northern Neck, she served two terms as President of the Rappahannock Art League.

In Rockbridge County, she served as Regent of the Virginia Frontier Chapter of the DAR. She was active in Republican Party politics, beginning as a writer for the Eisenhower campaign; later working for Ronald Reagan, both in his California Gubernatorial and subsequent Presidential campaigns. She was a founding member of the Lexington-Rockbridge Republican Committee and served as its Secretary for 12 years. Lynn also served as Secretary of the Falmouth, MA Republican Party, and was an active member of the Northumberland County, VA, Republican Committee.

Family services and interment were held at the Rose Cemetery, Mocksville, NC. on Monday, May 25th.

She was predeceased by her first husband, Dr. William B. Echols, Jr., of Lexington, VA.

She is survived by her husband and companion of 28 years, Richard C. Wolfe; three children: Dara Umberger and William B. Echols III of Charlottesville, VA and Shanon Kerr of Madison, VA: three grandchildren, Harper and Glynis Kerr and William B Echols IV, and many step grandchildren and great grandchildren.
