Ruth Marie Teaford DeHart, 82, of Lexington, went home to meet the Lord, Tuesday, June 9, 2009 with family by her side.

The daughter of Bessie Lee Reid and Jacob Frank Teaford, she was born in Roanoke, VA and moved to Mullens, WV, when she was eight.

Childhood summers and vacations were spent at her grandparents' home located at Kerrs Creek.

A graduate of Mullens High School, class of 1945, she worked for the Beckley Post Harold and the Mullens Advocate newspapers.

She went to California for a two week trip and kept a diary for the Mullens Advocate.

She married John Green DeHart, Jr. in 1949 and moved to Roanoke, VA where they resided for 21 years. During those years she was an active member of the First Baptist Church teaching Sunday School and singing in the choir. After living in Columbia, SC, New Haven, CT, and Levittown, PA, she and her husband settled in the Kerrs Creek area of Lexington in 1981.

She was an active member of the Kerrs Creek Baptist Church.

In addition to her parents she was predeceased in death by her sister, Marion Viola Teaford Hall; son-in-law Robert F. Srb and grandson, Jason Jonathan Brown.

Survivors include her husband of 59 years, John Green DeHart, Jr.; sisters, Anna Lee Gadd of Flatwood, KY and Nellie Teaford Wood of Russell, KY; daughters, Brenda DeHart Srb and Camellia DeHart Pierce (husband Ronnie); grandson, David M. Brown, II (wife Misty) of Germantown, MD; great-granddaughters, Mikaela, Gabrielle and Abigail; great grandson, Gavin; and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.

We celebrate her life and she may be gone but never forgotten. Memorials may be made to Benjamin Borden Health Care Garden Fund at Kendal at Lexington.

A private service will be held at a later date.

Arrangements are being handled by Harrison Funeral Home and Crematory, Lexington VA.
