Army Veteran Was Military Policeman

Joseph Brent "J.B." Cummings, age 72, of 320 Commerce Avenue, Iron Gate, Virginia died Monday, June 8, 2009 at Alleghany Regional Hospital, Low Moor.

Born October 15, 1936 in Iron Gate, J. B. was a son of the late Joseph Elmer and Mary Lowe Cummings.

He served in the United States Army as a military policeman.

He was a member of Kaiser Memorial Presbyterian Church in Iron Gate.

He enjoyed writing and was an author of books.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Larry Cummings.

He is survived by his wife, Lucy Chesnut Cummings of Iron Gate; a daughter, Dianalee Sunshine Bohme and husband,Paul of Fairfax; a son, Robin Brent Cummings of Iron Gate; two sisters, Joy Catherine "Cathy" Gusler and husband, Richard of Clifton Forge and Julia Lee "Judy" Hurt and husband, Bernard of Brunswick, GA; and a number of nieces and nephews.

A funeral service was conducted on Wednesday at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel of Nicely Funeral Home, Clifton Forge with Reverend Louis Dodd officiating. Interment followed in Locust Bottom Cemetery, Glen Wilton. The family received friends on Tuesday evening at Nicely Funeral Home and will at other times at the residence. The family suggests memorial tributes take the form of contributions to Kaiser Memorial Presbyterian Church, P.O. Box 314, Iron Gate, VA 24448.
