Obituary for Margaret Smith McCullough Margaret Smith McCullough
County Native Was Lexington Baptist Church Member

Margaret Smith McCullough, 99, beloved mother and grandmother, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, July 2, 2009.

Born June 21, 1910 in Rockbridge County, a daughter of the late Ida Zollman Smith and Poague Smith, she was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph D. McCullough and sons-in-law, Vernon Ayers and Col. Jim London; sisters, Nettie Lotts, Lula Irvine, Mildred Irvine and Frances Agnor; brothers, John B., Robert G. and Albert P. Smith.

She was a member of Lexington Baptist Church.

She is survived by a son, Dr. Robert W. McCullough, and his wife, Lois, of South Boston; daughters, Carole Shorter, and her husband, Buck, and Barbara London of Lexington; and grandchildren, Lisa McCullough Green, Patrick Ayers, Ryan London, Lisa Ayers Davis, Tony Shorter, and Stephanie Shorter Maddox and six great-grandchildren; a sister, Helen Smith; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation occurred at the home of Barbara London, 400 Margaret's Lane, from 3:00 to 6:00 p.m., on Sunday, July 5. There will be a private burial followed by a memorial service at Lexington Baptist Church on Monday, July 6, at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Michael Wilburn officiating. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Lexington Baptist Church or Patrick Henry Boys & Girls Plantation, Brookneal, VA.

Arrangements are being handled by the Harrison Funeral Home and Crematory, Lexington, Virginia.
