Obituary for Eugene Edward Gamble Eugene Edward Gamble
Main Street Baptist Church Member Was Former Continental Can Co. Employee

Eugene Edward Gamble, 88, formerly of 1023 Cliftwood Circle, Clifton Forge, died Friday July 17, 2009 at The Golden Living Center in Clifton Forge.

He was born in Lynchburg, South Carolina, on April 27, 1921, a son of the late Julius Edward Gamble and Florence Witherspoon Gamble.

He was a former employee of Continental Can Company in Patterson, New Jersey, and a member of Main Street Baptist Church in Clifton Forge, where he served on the Board of Ushers.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife Annie Gertrude Gamble in January of 2005, and a sister Addie Gamble.

He is survived by his wife, Geneva McCoy Gamble of Clifton Forge; two sisters, Julia Smith and her husband Joseph, of Clifton Forge; Mary Bradley of New York; a son, Bernard Monroe of Sumter, South Carolina; a grandchild, Sherrell Purcell; and a number of nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be conducted Monday at 2:00 p.m. from the Main Street Baptist Church in Clifton Forge with the Rev. Matthew Barnett, officiating. Interment will follow in Mountain View Cemetery. Active Pallbearers will be Harry Alston, Raymond Heighter, P.J. Beverly, Claude Beverly, Curtis Beverly and Allen McCoy. Flower bearers will be Hester Alston, Lorene Beverly, Joanne Heighter, Patricia Davis Ross, Laurea Dawson and friends attending the service. The family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. Monday until the time of the service at Main Street Baptist Church.

Arrangements are being handled by the Nicely Funeral Home, Clifton Forge, Virginia.
