Obituary for Thelma Juanita Jones Bradley Thelma Juanita Jones Bradley
Clifton Forge Native Was Longtime Nurse

Thelma Juanita Jones Bradley, 99, of Main Street, Clifton Forge, Virginia, passed away Friday, July 24, 2009.

Born April 9, 1910, in Clifton Forge, Mrs. Bradley was graduated from Jefferson High School and studied nursing at Washington, DC's Freedman's Hospital of Howard University, where she worked for over 30 years as a Maternal-Child Health Home Visiting Nurse.

She returned to live in Clifton Forge in the early 1970s and resided in her family home on Main Street.

In later years, she was employed by the Town of Clifton Forge in The Green Thumb Program.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Mattie Cornelia Anderson Jones and Joseph McLean Jones of Clifton Forge; her sister, Elaine Jones Broady of Washington, DC; and her brother, Carlyle Anderson Jones of Petersburg.

She is survived by cousins Nathanial (Catherine) Adams, Lorenzo (Bettye) Calender, all of Washington, DC; Altamae Calender Scott of Waynesboro, Catherine Thompson of Leonardtown, Maryland; and nieces, Marie Carol, Cornelia Lorraine, and Carlyle Robin Jones, all of Petersburg; among numerous other cousins and friends.

Thelma loved to sing and was a longtime member of First Baptist Church where she sang in the choir. She loved life, enjoyed people and always had time for fun. Some of her favorite pastimes were bingo, cards, puzzles, baseball games.

A Celebration Service will be held at First Baptist Church at 918 Church Street on Saturday, August 1, 2009, at 2 p.m. The family looks forward to greeting friends at that time. A special thank you goes to the staffs of the Golden Living Center-Alleghany and Mountain Regional Hospice for their kind and thoughtful care.

The Nicely Funeral Home in Clifton Forge is handling the arrangements.
