Gladys Higgins Staton, 73, of Lexington, died Thursday July 30, 2009 in University of Virginia Medical Center.

She was born October 26, 1935 in Rockbridge County, a daughter of the late Charles William Higgins and Kate Smith Higgins.

Mrs. Staton was the last surviving member of her immediate family.

She was a member of Bible Church at Rockbridge.

Surviving are her husband, Charles J. Staton; six children, Diane Shields and husband, Rodney of Buena Vista, Donna Leahy and husband, John of Largo, FL, Charles A. Staton and wife, Darlene, Peggy McCormick and husband, Wayne, Clifford Staton and wife, Lynn, and Clinton Staton and wife, Mazie, all of Lexington; thirteen grandchildren; fourteen great grandchildren; and her church family.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, August 03, 2009 at Bible Church at Rockbridge with Rev. George Warden officiating. Burial will follow in Rockbridge Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 4:30 Ð 6:30 p.m. Sunday, August 2, 2009 at Harrison Funeral Home & Crematory, Lexington, VA.
