Covington Business Owner Was Woman's Club, Westvaco Rescue Squad Auxiliary Leader

Connie Louise McComb King 62, of 1402 Russell Drive, Covington, Virginia, died Wednesday evening, August 12, 2009 at her residence.

She was born January 30, 1947 in Beckley, West Virginia, a daughter of the late Earl and Irene Beverage McComb.

Connie was the Owner and Operator of Chapman Plumbing, Heating and Air Conditioning Inc., since 1990. She was a member of the Covington Business and Professional Womens Club and received their Community Achievement Award in 2001. She was named to WhoÕs Who in Executive and Professionals for 2004-2005.

She was a Life Member of the Westvaco Rescue Squad Ladies Auxiliary, having joined in 1974 and was President several times. She was a member of the Auxiliary to Virginia Association of Volunteer Rescue Squads and served as Emergency Care Chairman and Secretary- Treasurer for the Western District for a number of years and was active on various state committees. Connie was a member of the Covington Woman's Club and had served on several committees and offices over the last 29 years.

She was a Girl Scout Leader for the Junior and Senior troops. In 1999 She was awarded the Thanks Badge, the highest award given an adult by the Girl Scouts. She was the Service Unit Chairman and also served as Chairman of the Gold Award Committee for the Virginia Skyline Girl Scout Council for many years.

She was a volunteer for the American Red Cross since 1974 and was a former instructor of Standard and Advanced First Aid. She was a member of the Alleghany Historical Society and the C & O Historical Society.

Connie was a faithful member of the Edgemont Associate Reformed Presbyterian Church where she served as a Deacon and on various committees and for many years was the Treasurer of the Presbyterian Mission Week.

She had a love of traveling and had the pleasure of going on numerous trips with her husband Dennis.

Connie was proud to be a 16 year breast cancer survivor.

Surviving are her husband of 43 years, Dennis King of Covington; two daughters and sons in law, Dawn and Tony Lewis and Tiffany and Mike Sanders, all of Covington; a step grandson, Kyle Lewis of Covington; one brother, Guy McComb, and his wife, Debbie, of White Sulphur Springs, WV; a nephew, David McComb of Covington; several aunts and uncles , including Jean Radford of Piney View, WV and Paul McCobb of Flint Michigan, and her beloved Scottish Terrier, Mac.

The funeral service will be held 11:00 a.m. Saturday, August 15, 2009 the Edgemont Associate Reformed Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Donnie Bowker officiating, assisted by the Rev. William Harris.

The interment will be made in Wallace Memorial Cemetery at Lewisburg, West Virginia.

Friends may pay their respects at Arritt Funeral Home at anytime. The family received friends Friday evening from 7:00 until 8:30 p.m. at Arritt Funeral Home.
