Nellie Marie Nicely Sampson, age 73, of 4308 Longdale Furnace Road, Clifton Forge, Virginia, died August 25, 2009 at her residence.

She was born December 31, 1935 in Alleghany County, Virginia, a daughter of the late Russell Eugene and Mary Vest Nicely.

She had been an employee of Jane Colby Apparel and the former Holiday Inn of Covington, and was a member of Longdale United Methodist Church.

She loved her grandchildren and the beach.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Sylvester T. "Beck" Nicely; two sisters, Eleanor McDavid and Gail Anthony; and four brothers, Sherman Glenn Nicely, Jack Clinton Nicely, Grant Dillard Nicely, and Russell Eugene Nicely, Jr.

She is survived by a daughter, Sharon Henderson and husband, Claude of Bluefield, WV, a son, Tony C. Nicely and companion Sandy Hartley of Iron Gate; two sisters, Leota Jean Collins of Salem and Jean Nicely Johnson of Buchanan; five grandchildren: Nicholas Fridley, Stacy Shrader, Andy Henderson, Daniel Nicely, and Chase Nicely; three great grandchildren, Bryar Shrader, Sophie Shrader, and Dylan Fridley; five step grandchildren: Mikki Curtis, Midori Hartley, Susan Charbonneau, Sharon Hamlin, and Mary Henderson; a number of nieces and nephews, and special friend, Jennifer Hawse of Clifton Forge.

A graveside memorial service will be held on Saturday at 11:00 a.m. at Sharon Baptist Church Cemetery, Clifton Forge with Reverend Paul Brokaw officiating. Interment will follow. There will be no formal visitation.
