Obituary for Floyd Watkins Phillips Floyd Watkins Phillips
Air Force Veteran Was Western State Hospital Retiree

Floyd Watkins Phillips 78, of 6 Black Rock Lane, Raphine, Va, widower of Annie Stuart Phillips, died Saturday, September 5, 2009 in his residence surrounded by his family.

He was born March 7, 1931 in Augusta County, a son of the late Hughes Bransford and Gladys L. (Campbell) Phillips.

Mr. Phillips was a veteran of the U. S. Air Force.

Prior to retirement, he was employed by Western State Hospital.

He played basketball and softball, was an avid bear hunter and gardener.

He was a member of Emory United Methodist Church.

In addition to his wife, he was also preceded in death by a brother, Alonzo "Teeny" Phillips.

Family members include two sons and a daughter-in-law, Danny Phillips and his companion, Dana Blockson of Staunton and Jerry and Rose Phillips of Raphine; a daughter and son-in-law, Cindy and Danny Doyle of Raphine; a brother, H. Gary Phillips of Raphine; a sister, Louellen Cash of Steeles Tavern; four grandchildren, Scotty, Tinker, Lora, and Tonya; three great grandchildren, Jacob, Jaden, and Jared; and special hunting buddy, Justin.

A funeral service will be conducted at 10 a.m. Tuesday, September 8, 2009, in the Henry Funeral Home Chapel by the Revs. Jim Simmons and Don Cash. Burial will follow in Mt. Carmel Presbyterian Church Cemetery.

Active pallbearers will be Scottie Phillips, Danny "Tinker" Phillips, Everett Cash, Sam Toppings, Buddy Waymac, and Troy Phillips.

The family will receive friends from 6:30 until 8:00 p.m. Monday, September 7, 2009 at the funeral home.
