Obituary for Barbara Anderson Barbara Anderson
Founding Member Of Christ Church Child Center

Barbara Anderson, 75, of Lexington, died Saturday, September 6, 2009 at her home.

She was born March 17, 1934 in Odebolt, Iowa, and lived for many years in Maryland.

She graduated from the University of Maryland in 1955, where she was president of the Maryland chapter of Delta Delta Delta sorority.

She was a founding member of the Women's Auxiliary of the Christ Church Child Center and organized the annual fundraising efforts to support the Christ Church Child Center - now the Ivy Mount School for children with learning disabilities.

She co-owned Maxwell Shoe Company of Annapolis, Maryland and later worked as the Continuing Education Administrator for Life Underwriters Training Counsel and earned the designation of LUTCF (Life Underwriter Training Counsel Fellow).

She retired to Lexington in 1996 and was an active member of the Greater Lexington Newcomers bridge group and book group, and volunteered at the Rockbridge Regional Library.

She is survived by a son, Donald Lee Anderson, Jr. and his wife, Kate, of Potomac, Maryland; two daughters, Anne Anderson-Sawyer and husband, Robin, of Columbia, MD; and Mary Staff Lupsha and husband, David, of Lexington, VA; nine grandchildren and an amazing group of family and friends.

A Celebration of Life gathering will be held at the Harrison Funeral Home in Lexington, Virginia, September 19, 2009 at 2 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Rockbridge Regional Library, 138 S. Main Street, Lexington, Va. 24450.

The Harrison Funeral Home and Crematory will be handling the arrangements.
