Obituary for Carl Hicks Griffith Carl Hicks Griffith
World War II Veteran Owned Giff's ElectricP> Carl Hicks Griffith, 91, of Covington, died Saturday October 17, 2009 at the Brian Center in Low Moor.

He was born August 14, 1918 in Alleghany County, a son of the late Clarence G. and Zula VanBuren Griffith.

Mr. Griffith served with the United States Navy during World War II.

He retired in 1980 as the owner and operator of Giff's Electric.

Mr. Griffith was a member of the Faith Baptist Church.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Griffith was preceded in death by his wife, LaNelle Porterfield Griffith in April 2009.

Surviving are one son, Bill Griffith of Johnson City, TN; three daughters, Ann Steele of Bristol, VA; Janet Wolfe and her husband, Donnie and Nanci Scruggs and her husband, Gary, all of Covington; seven grandchildren, Mandi and Mark Dennis, Millie Anne and Brent VanDevender, Ryan and Brandi Wolfe, Adam and Wendy Wolfe, Justin and Krista Scruggs, Casey Scruggs and Jenn Glenny and Emmalea Grriffith; nine great grandchildren; Ellie Dennis, Sam Dennis, Gabby Dennis, Maddox Wolfe, Gage Wolfe, Keller Wolfe, Boston Wolfe, Abe VanDevender and Cole Scruggs.

The funeral service will be held 6:30 p.m. Thursday, October 22, 2009 at Faith Baptist Church with the Rev. John Burnham officiating.

Following the funeral service the family will receive friends at the church.

The interment will be held 11:00 a.m. Friday at Cedar Hill Cemetery.

The Arritt Funeral Home, Covington, Virginia, is in charge of arrangements.
