Was Retired C&O Nurse, Boy Scout Supporter

Ellen Ann Crawford Cox, age 72, of 47 Granville Ave, Clifton Forge, Virginia, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, November 22, 2009 after a courageous battle with cancer.

She was born on October 2, 1937 in Clifton Forge, Virginia, a son of the late George K. and Erna Estell Akers Crawford.

She was a retired Civilian Registered Nurse for the former Chesapeake and Ohio Hospital and also Andrews Air Force Base and Medical College of Virginia in Richmond.

She was a member of First Christian Church Disciples of Christ, where she belonged to the Rose Tatum Circle. She was a member of the Widows Fellowship and was a supporter of Boy Scout Troop 2 of Clifton Forge.

She devoted her life to her church and to helping others.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Jerry P. Cox in 1966; a sister, Mary Shifflett Morris and a brother, Robert Ryland Crawford.

She is survived by a daughter, Teresa A. Weikle and husband, Ashley of Clifton Forge; a son, Michael K. Cox and wife, Cindy of Lynchburg; two brothers, Carroll Ray Crawford and wife, Mary Lou of Richmond and James Edward "Jimmy" Crawford and wife, Ricky of Pleasant Hill, CA; two grandchildren, Graham Cox and Brian Cox, and a number of nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends on Monday evening from 7:00 p.m. until 8:30 p.m. at Nicely Funeral Home, Clifton Forge and other times at the residence, 47 Granville Ave, Clifton Forge. A graveside funeral service will be conducted on Wednesday, December 2, 2009 at 9:00 a.m. in Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, Virginia.
