Charlottesville Bookkeeper Was Clifton Forge Resident

Gletha Lee Maydian Ross, 86, of 212 3rd Street, Clifton Forge, died Saturday, December 12, 2009 at The Golden Living Center in Clifton Forge.

She was born in Selma, Virginia on March 31, 1923 and was the daughter of the late Carl Thornal Maydian and Helen Megllo Maydian.

Mrs. Ross graduated from the former Central High School in Low Moor and was a 1942 graduate of the Dunsmore Business College in Staunton, Virginia.

She was a bookkeeper for many years in Charlottesville, Virginia.

She was an active member of the Epworth United Methodist Church in Selma and served for many years on the Board of Trustees of the church.

She was a member of the United Methodist Women. She was a member of the Eastern Star Chapter No. 14 of Charlottesville, a member of Order of the Amaranth, Inc. Blue Ridge Court No. 8, Charlottesville.

She was a member of Rebekah Lodge #8 of Covington.

Mrs. Ross was a great supporter of the Chesapeake and Ohio Historical Society in Clifton Forge. She had a love of historical facts and was known as the history keeper for her church and family. She gave generously to many organizations and charities throughout the United States.

She loved to fish in her younger years.

She is survived by a sister, Phyllis Conley of Richmond; an uncle Corbin M. "Bud" Reynolds of Glen Wilton; and a number of close nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Pem Brooks "P.B." Ross, Jr. in November of 1986 and by a brother Thomas Carlyle Maydian. A graveside funeral service will be conducted Wednesday at 11:00 a.m. in Mountain View Cemetery with Rev. Gerry Burkholder officiating.

The family will receive friends Wednesday morning at 10:00 a.m. at Nicely Funeral Home, one hour prior to the service. The family suggests memorial tributes take the form of contributions to Epworth United Methodist Church, Women of the Church, P.O. Box 190, Selma, Virginia 24474.
