Dessaix B. Hughes, Sr., 88, of Fairfield, Virginia, died Saturday morning, January 9, 2010 at Heritage Hall.

Born August 4, 1921 in Clifton Forge, he was the son of the late Soult Murat Hughes and Rachel Madora Hartbarger Hughes.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Naomi German and Teresa Steele.

Surviving are his wife, Marie Miley Hughes; three daughters, Sharon Tomassetti of Atlanta, GA, Nadine Miller of Lexington, and Emily Nicely of Fairfield; one son, Dessaix B. Hughes, Jr. of Fairfield; five grandchildren and six great grandchildren.

Services will be private.
