Obituary for Marie (Granny) Deacon Moore Marie (Granny) Deacon Moore
Was Lovingly Known As "Granny"

Marie (Granny) Deacon Moore, 84, of Buena Vista, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Thursday, January 14, 2010 at Golden Living Center.

Born March 9, 1925 in Rockbridge County, she was the daughter of the late Harry and Alleyne Reid Deacon of Collierstown.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband Joseph (Pete) Moore.

Marie retired from Enderly Heights Elementary School after 37 years.

She was an active member of the St. John's United Methodist Church and was a member of Floyd S. Davidson Post 126 Ladies Auxiliary.

She was a dedicated member of the Parry McCluer High School Band Boosters for 40 years and was lovingly know as "Granny" by all the boosters and students.

Surviving are one daughter, Rita Blackwell and husband, Larry; one son, James (Gus) Moore and wife, Susan, all of Buena Vista; one brother, Norman Deacon and wife, Margaret; two sisters, Clara Moore and Florence Deacon and Tink; three grandchildren, Lauren Blackwell, Jordan Moore and Scott Moore and wife, Robin; four great grandchildren, Austin Moore, Ethan Moore, Madison Moore and McKenna Moore; and a long time special friend Edna Harris.

The family would like to thank the staff at Golden Living Center for being so supportive and for taking such good care of Marie during the last two months of her life, and to all of her neighbors and Brenda Barlow for helping take care of her in the past four years.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, January 18, 2010 at St. John's United Methodist Church with the Rev. John Choi and Rev. Russ Barb officiating. Burial will follow at Rockbridge Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday, January 17, 2010 at Bolling, Grose, and Lotts Funeral Home, and at Marie's home at 1256 Forest Ave at any other time. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to St. John's United Methodist Church.
