Former Covington Postmaster Was Air Force Veteran

Lloyd Edward (Eddie) Hickman, age 58, of 427 Lauren K. Lane, Covington, Virginia, died Friday, January 29, 2010 at the home of his parents, 820 Rose Avenue, Clifton Forge.

Born March 26, 1951 in Alleghany County, Virginia, he was a son of Allen and Charlotte G. Hickman.

He served in the United States Air Force and was a postmaster of the Covington Post Office.

He was a member of First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), Clifton Forge and loved to fish.

He was preceded in death by two aunts, Louise Roadcap and Ruth Hatcher; three uncles, Bud Gwilliams, Paul Gwilliams and Lester Lomasney; and a nephew, Christopher Hickman.

He is survived by his wife, Darlene L. Phillips Hickman of Covington; his parents, Edgar "Allen" Hickman and Charlotte G. Hickman of Clifton Forge; two step daughters, Melissa Groves of Clifton Forge and Penny Hiner and husband, Glenn of Hot Springs, a sister, Bonnie Yopp and husband, Jimmy of Richmond; a brother, David Hickman and wife, Gayle of Richmond; four step grandchildren, Jerrod Groves, Rachell Groves and Sara Smith, all of Clifton Forge; and Caleb Hiner of Hot Springs; four aunts, Jean Lomasney of Clifton Forge, Doris Jean Gwilliams of Gloucester, Doris Lewis of Covington and Garnet Bryan of Covington; one niece, Courtney Andrews of Richmond; one nephew, Jay Yopp of Richmond and special friend, Charlie Phillips. A funeral service will be held on Tuesday at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel of Nicely Funeral Home, Clifton Forge with Reverend Glenn Clemens officiating.

Interment will follow in Alleghany Memorial Park, Low Moor. Pallbearers will be Jason Yopp, Jordan Andrews, Glenn Hiner, Charlie Phillips, Todd Tyree and Jerrod Groves. The family will receive friends on Monday evening from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Nicely Funeral Home. The family suggests memorial tributes take the form of contributions to First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), P.O. Box 63, Clifton Forge, VA 24422.
