Korean Veteran Earned 5 War Medals

Harry (Dickie) Melvin Wells, 77, of Glasgow, died, Thursday, February 18, 2010 at Roanoke Memorial Hospital.

Born March 23, 1932 in Glasgow, he was the son of the late Harry Cleveland Wells and Edith Moxely Wells.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a grandson, Phillip Staton, Jr. "DickieÓ" worked at Lees Carpets for 25 years, and retired from Taylor-Ramsey Corporation.

Mr. Wells was a recipient of five war medals during his time in the US Army during the Korean War.

He was a member of the Glasgow Baptist Church.

Surviving are his wife, Virginia Reynolds Wells; two daughters, Rhonda Rogers and husband, Mark of Glasgow; Cindy Thomas and husband, Rodney of Natural Bridge Station; one sister, Dean Floyd and husband, Mack of Glasgow; four grandchildren, Nicole Staton and Jason Ezell, Megan Hostetter and husband, Jason, Lindsey Flint and husband, Phillip; Shana Thomas; two great grandchildren, Addison Flint and Isaiah Ezell; one niece, Edith Mae Watts and husband, Jimmy; one great nephew, Shane Watts; one great-great nephew, Hayden Dean Watts.

The funeral service will take place 2 p.m. Monday, February 22, 2010 at Glasgow Baptist Church with Rev. William "Bill" Thomas and Paul Flint officiating. Burial will follow in Rockbridge Memorial Gardens. Family received friends Sunday, February 21, 2010 at Bolling, Grose & Lotts Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Buena Vista, VA.
