Virginia Army National Guard Employee Dies At Age 59

Donald Lee Bostic, 59, of Lexington, passed away Friday, February 19, 2010 after fighting a courageous battle with cancer.

He was born on August 10, 1950 in White Sulphur Springs, West Virginia.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Carl M. and Margaret Huffman Bostic.

Donald was a graduate of White Sulphur Springs High School and Dabney S. Lancaster Community College.

Donald was a member of the Davis Stuart Presbyterian Church of Lewisburg, West Virginia.

He was employed with the Virginia Army National Guard, Physical Security, Non-commissioned officer for the State of Virginia.

Sgt. Maj. Bostic was a Vietnam and Gulf War Veteran. He was a member of the Nottaway River Country Club and was a former member of the Lexington Golf & Country Club.

He is survived by his wife of 37 years, Fontanne Swisher Bostic; one loving daughter, Shanna Barger and son-in-law Jason, and his precious grandson, Jase of Buena Vista, Virginia.

He is also survived by two brothers, Gordon Bostic and his wife, Claudette; Paul Bostic and his wife, Patty; seven sisters, Midge Black; Sharon Hylton; Bonita and husband, Thomas Foster; Waneta and husband, Paul Sharp, all of White Sulphur Springs; Janet and husband, George Collins of Fairmont, West Virginia; Mary Jane and husband, Darrell Elkins of Fayetteville, West Virginia; Lura Ann and husband, James Elkins of Pilot, Virginia; three sisters-in-law, Patsy and husband, Eddie Paxton; Brenda & husband Gene Rhodenizer; Sharon and husband, Charles Peebles; one brother-in-law, Harry Swisher and wife, Penny; many nieces, nephews, friends and those special others that were like children and grandchildren to him.

Funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday, February 23, 2010 at Harrison Funeral Home Chapel with the Chaplin (MAJOR) J.D. Moore and the Rev. Benjamin W. Dowling, III officiating. Burial to follow in Stonewall Jackson Cemetery. The family will receive friends 5 to 7 p.m. Monday, February 22, 2010 at Harrison Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers please make donations to Rockbridge Area Hospice or the American Cancer Society.
