World War II Marine Veteran Was Retired Town Attorney

Robert Poole Heywood, 87, of Lexington, died Sunday, February 21, 2010.

Born October 17, 1922 in Troy, NY, he was a son of the late Robert and Annie Poole Heywood.

He was retired as town attorney for Colonie, NY and was a previous partner in Heywood & Little Law Firm.

Mr. Heywood was a First Lieutenant in the Marine Corps and served in World War II and the Korean conflict.

Mr. Heywood attended Union College, was a graduate Albany Law School and was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church.

He loved hunting and fishing.

Surviving are his wife, Mildred Leighton Heywood, Lexington; children, Gregory Nelson Heywood and wife, Carolyn of Putney, VT, Christine Leighton Heywood, Latham, NY, and Lisa Ruth Heywood-Drake and husband, Gordon of Loudonville, NY; two grandchildren, Mark and Bethany Heywood; one brother, John S. Heywood of Keene Valley, NY; one cousin, Daniel A. Poole and wife, Dorothy of Maryland; and nieces and nephews, Scott H. Baker and wife, Kathy; Dan Baker and wife, Sharon; Heidi Heywood and husband, Duncan and Leslie Heywood and husband, Barry.

Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Thursday, February 25, 2010 at Harrison Funeral Chapel with Rev. Michael Copeland officiating. Burial will follow at a later date in the Hudson View Cemetery, Mechanicville, NY.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Trinity United Methodist Church, 147 S. Main St., Lexington, VA 24450. The family will receive friends from 1 - 3 p.m. Thursday, February 25, 2010 at Harrison Funeral Home & Crematory, Lexington, VA.
