Vietnam Veteran Was Employed By Two Local Farms

Thomas Burton Landis, 65, of 326 W. Hawthorne Street, Covington, Virginia, died Sunday, February 28, 2010 at the home of his daughter.

He was born February 7, 1945 in Alleghany County, a son of the late Emmett and Beaula Byer Landis.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Landis was preceded in death by one grandchild, Leland Landis and by eight brothers and sisters.

Mr. Landis served wth the United States Army during the Vietnam War.

He was employed by Merry-Go-Round Farm and Quarry Top Farm.

Surviving are a son, Thomas F. Landis of Dilwyn, VA; three daughters, Virginia Domingo of Harrisonburg; Julie Chittum and Melissa Landis, both of Covington; 12 grandchildren; 4 great grandchildren; three sisters, Betty Lou Rice of Covington; Lula Rice of West Virginia and Liz Davis of Maryland; one brother, Marvin Landis of California; and several nieces and nephews.

The funeral service will be held 4:00 p.m. Wednesday, March 3, 2010 in the Arritt Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Edith Snedegar officiating.

The interment will follow in Alleghany Memorial Park with graveside rites being conducted by the Curtis S. Smith Post 1033 Veterans of Foreign Wars.

Friends may pay their respects any time at Arritt Funeral Home and the family will receive the friends Tuesday evening from 7:00 until 8:30 p.m. Tuesday evening.

The Arritt Funeral Home, Covington, Virginia, is in charge of arrangements.
