Homemaker Was Selma Church Of The Brethren Member

Margurite Elizabeth Harlow Broughman, age 90, of 1300 Concord Street, Selma, Virginia, died Monday, March 15, 2010, under the care of Mountain Regional Hospice, at the residence of her daughter, Minnie Slayton, 1207 John Tyler St, Selma.

Born January 30, 1920 in Alleghany County, Virginia, she was a daughter of the late Charles Thomas Harlow, Sr. and Pearl May Harlow.

She was a homemaker throughout her life and was a member of the Selma Church of the Brethren.

She was a charter member of the Women of the Moose Chapter #22.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Lawrence A. Broughman; two sons, Lawrence Alvin Broughman and Robert Linwood Broughman; two brothers, Ernest Linwood Harlow and James Monroe Harlow; two sisters, Sadith Alvis Boyd and Virginia Louise Larman; a son-in-law, Rodney A. Hale; a great grandson, Ian Michael Hippert and a great granddaughter, Brianna Chaffin Hill.

She is survived by two daughters, Joyce Hale of Selma and Minnie Slayton and husband, Doug of Selma; a sister, Inez Dooley of Selma; three brothers, Charles Harlow, Jr. and wife, Mary of Selma, Harrison Harlow and wife, Mary of Williamsburg and Ronald Harlow and wife, Helen of Selma; seven grandchildren, Cynthia Nuckols, Robert Hippert and wife, Terrie, Travis Snyder, Padgett Campbell and husband, Willie, Scott Slayton, Teresa Tinsley and husband, Ricky, and Kelly Broughman; nine great grandchildren, David Aaron Thompson, Jonathan Rae Huguley, Randolph Alexander Snyder, Marie Elizabeth Nicely, Randall Lee Tinsley, Whitney Leann Huguley, Taylor Lawrence Hippert, Jared Clinton Hippert and Ethan Thomas Campbell: and a number of nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held on Thursday at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel of Nicely Funeral Home, Clifton Forge with Reverend Ed West officiating. Interment will follow in Mountain View Cemetery, Clifton Forge. Pallbearers will be Sonny Harlow, Wayne Harlow, Allen Harlow, Gary Harlow, Donnie Hayslett, Sr. and Tony Belcher. John Reed will be an alternate pallbearer. The family will receive friends on Wednesday evening from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Nicely Funeral Home and other times at the residence of Minnie and Doug Slayton, 1207 John Tyler St, or Joyce Hale, 1300 Concord St, both of Selma.

The Nicely Funeral Home, Clifton Forge, Virginia, is handling the arrangements.
