Obituary for Raynor Leslie Ayers, Jr. Raynor Leslie Ayers, Jr.
Marine Major Was University Of Pennsylvania Graduate

Mr. Raynor Leslie Ayers, Jr., age 96, formerly of Covington, died Friday, September 11, 2009.

Mr. Ayers was born May 25, 1913 in Covington, the son of Raynor Leslie Ayers, Sr. and Mary Elizabeth Fry Ayers.

He served his country as a member of the United States Marines during World War II where he attained the rank of Major.

A graduate of the University of Pennsylvania in 1936, Mr. Ayers lived in several cities including, Baltimore, MD, Vero Beach, FL and Cave City, KY.

He was a member of the Covington Masonic Lodge #171 AF & AM, a 32 degree Scottish Rite Mason, a York Rite Mason and was a member of the Rotary Club.

Mr. Ayers is survived by a son, Raynor L. Ayers, III and wife, Diana of Dallas, TX, two daughters, Susan Ayers Robertson and husband, Pat of Chestertown, MD and Sally Anne Ayers of Baltimore, MD; three grandchildren, William H. Ayers, Cynthia R. DeGalleford, and Tiffany J. Anderson; one great grandchild, Spencer Thomas DeGalleford.

In addition to his parents, Raynor Leslie Ayers, Sr. and Mary Elizabeth Fry Ayers, Mr. Ayers was preceded in death by the mother to his surviving children, Eleanor Harrison Ayers in 1992.

A graveside service will be conducted at 4:00 P.M. Saturday, April 17, 2010, at Cedar Hill Cemetery with the Rev. Barry Throckmorton officiating.
