Elsie Greene Coleman, 90, passed away Sunday morning, April 25, 2010 at the Carilion Stonewall Jackson Hospital.

She was born October 4, 1919 in Midvale, Virginia, to the late Guy and Hattie Sorrells Greene.

She lived most of her life within a few miles where she was born.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Walker Myers (Doc) Coleman and a sister, Jo Farris Gilliam.

Elsie was a member of the Neriah Baptist Church.

She is survived by one son, Kenneth M. Coleman and his wife, Diane, of Fairfield, VA; three daughters and sons-in-law: Patricia (Pat) and Raymond Snyder of Vesuvius, Ellen and Billy Ware of Fairfield, and Janet and James Mayo of Buena Vista; a brother, Franklin (Buddy) Greene of Winchester; and a sister, Dorothy Hite of Lexington; five grandchildren and seven great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, April 27, 2010 at the Harrison Funeral Home with the Rev. Carl Moore and Rev. Sandra Rushing officiating. Burial will follow in the Rockbridge Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. on Monday, April 26, 2010 at the Harrison Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Fairfield Rescue Squad or the South River Fire Department.
