James Austin Lyle, Sr., 84, of Poughkeepsie, New York, died Thursday April 22, 2010 in Fairfax Memorial Hospital.

Born December 28, 1925, in Lexington, VA, he was a son of the late Austin Henry Lyle and Mildred Louise Carpenter Lyle.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, James Lyle, Jr.

Mr. Lyle was a member of First Baptist Church and was a career educator.

Surviving are his wife, Emma Lyle; three children, William D. Lyle, Springfield, VA, Virginia Louise Lyle, Wappingers Falls, NY and Lawrence Lyle, Atlanta, GA; two brothers, Robert Lyle and Frazier Lyle, both of Leominster, MA; four grandchildren, three great grandchildren.

A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, May 1, 2010 in First Baptist Church, Lexington with Rev. James Harris officiating. Burial will follow in Evergreen Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to First Baptist Church, 103 N. Main St., Lexington, VA 24450. The family will receive friends from 12:30 - 1:30 p.m. at the church on Saturday, May 1, 2010.
