Herbert Ira Higgins, 93, of Glasgow, Virginia, was called home to be with the Lord, Friday, May 7, 2010.

Born January 6, 1917 in Rockbridge County, he was a son of the late Harry I. and Clara Virginia Smith Higgins.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Susan D. Higgins; two grandsons, William and Stanley Higgins.

Mr. Higgins was a member of Ebenezer ARP Church and was a lifelong farmer.

Surviving are a son, Hunter I. Higgins and wife, Dorothy, who was Mr. Higgins's special caregiver, of Glasgow; two sisters, Bessie Jarvis and Nettie Carter; four step grandchildren; seven step great grandchildren; one step great, great grandchild.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, May 10, 2010 at Harrison Funeral Chapel with Rev. George Warden officiating. Burial will follow in Stonewall Jackson Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
