Clifton Forge Homemaker Was Living Stones Ministries Member

Jean Kern Thurston, 71, of Clifton Forge, Virginia, died Saturday, May 8, 2010 at her residence.

She was born April 3, 1939 in Alleghany County, Virginia, a daughter of the late Curtis D. and Elizabeth C. Liptrap Kern.

She was a homemaker throughout her life and a member of Living Stones Ministries, where she participated in Straight Street, sang in the choir, was a greeter and helped with Food Box Ministries.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Clyde White Thurston, Jr. and brothers, Curtis "Porky" Kern, William "Bill" Kern and Thomas "Tommy" Kern.

She is survived by a daughter, Carolyn Clodfelter and husband, Sammy of Walkertown, NC; a son, Keith Morris and wife, Rhonda of Clifton Forge; three sisters, Jeanette Hartzler and husband, George of Alberta, Canada, Patricia Cumor and husband, Roland of Pennsylvania; and Brenda Lynn and husband, Archie of Pennsylvania; a sister-in-law, Beverly Kern of Iron Gate; two brothers, Joseph Kern and wife, Jill of Clifton Forge and Raymond Kern of Clifton Forge; two grandchildren, Chris Clodfelter of St. Thomas USVI and Desirae Clodfelter of North Carolina; a number of nieces and nephews; caregivers, Janet Anglin and Michelle Tillman and beloved pet, Queenie.

A memorial service will be conducted on Wednesday at 11:00 a.m. in the chapel of Nicely Funeral Home, Clifton Forge with Reverend Mike Rollins officiating. The family will receive friends on Tuesday evening from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Nicely Funeral Home. The family suggests memorial tributes take the form of contributions to Mountain Regional Hospice Volunteers, P.O. Box 637, Clifton Forge, VA 24422.

Arrangements are being handled by the Nicely Funeral Home, Clifton Forge.
