Marine Corps Veteran Worked With MeadWestvaco For 37 Years

Donald Lee Riley, 72, of 305 Jackson Drive, Covington, Virginia, died Friday, May 7, 2010, at his home.

Mr. Riley was born September 29, 1936, in Covington a son of the late Joseph Samuel and Nellie Gertrude Humphries Riley.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Mary Ellen Riley.

He was a 1954 graduate of Covington High School. He then enlisted in the United States Marine Corps and served at Naval Air Stations in Memphis, Tennessee, and Cherry Point, NC.

Donald had retired in 1992 from MeadWestvaco after 37 years with the company working as a yardman, an operator in the finishing room and in the research lab.

He was a lifelong member of Covington Baptist Church and was an avid Civil War enthusiast.

Surviving are his brother and sister-in-law, William J. "Bill" and Shirley Riley of Covington; three nieces and their husbands, Debbie and Guy McComb of White Sulphur Springs, WV, Lisa and Kevin Cole and Tina and John Humphreys, all of Covington; one nephew and his wife, Jody, and Debra Riley of Covington; nine great nieces and great nephews, Joey Riley, Bryan Riley, Justin Straub, Kylene Straub, Lauren Cole, Heather Cole, Alex Cole, Krista Humphreys and Kristopher Humphreys; and special friends, Audrey Brill of Raleigh, NC, Johnny and Betty Brown and Ron and Kathy Hazen, all of Covington.

The funeral service was held Monday afternoon at 2:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Arritt Funeral Home with the Rev. Chris Poluikis officiating. Interment will be made in Cedar Hill Cemetery.

Active pallbearers will be Joey Riley, Bryan Riley, Alex Cole, Justin Straub, Johnny Brown, Freddy Dunford, Lem Fitzgerald and Gary Wallace. Alternate pallbearers will be Jack Hicks, Ed Wiley, Harold Lambert and Pete Griffith.

The family received friends Sunday evening at Arritt Funeral Home and at other times will be at the residence of Bill and Shirley Riley at 100 Waller Avenue in Clearwater Park.
