Obituary for Thomas Ira Pritts Thomas Ira Pritt
Retired In 1991 After 40 Years As A C&O Brakeman

Thomas Ira Pritt, 83, of 536 East Hickory Street, Covington, Virginia, died Sunday, June 13, 2010, at Alleghany Regional Hospital.

Mr. Pritt was born on September 22, 1926, in Bath County a son of the late Russell Pritt and Thelma Ollie Definbaugh Pritt.Thomas Ira Pritt In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Tina Pritt, a granddaughter Angie "Pooh" Gilpin, and two brothers. He retied in 1991 after 40 years of service from the C&O Railroad as a Brakeman. He was a member of the First Church of Nazarene for 40 years. He served in the United States Army in World War II, an also an avid hunter.

Surviving are his wife, Louise Gutshall Pritt of Covington; a daughter, Catherine Brown and husband, Donnie of Covington; a son, Thomas Pritt and his wife, Katherine of Covington, two grandchildren, Christy Brown and her husband, Chris of Covington, and Lisa Pritt of Covington, and Christian Brown of Covington; four great grandchildren, Tristin Brown of Covington, Zachary Brown of Covington, Noah Brown of Covington, Nathaniel Mckinney of Covington; two sisters, Mary Hanks of Covington and Elsie Walker and husband, Joe of Stauton; two God-children, Hannah Leitch of Covington, Michael and Marlee Parker of Covington; also, sister-in-law, Joyce Farris and husband, Harvey of Hot Springs; a brother-in-law, Weldon Gutshall of Hot Springs; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be Tuesday, June 15, 2010 from 7 - 8:30 p.m. at Arritt Funeral Home.

A funeral service will be held Wednesday at 11:00 a.m. in the chapel of Arritt Funeral Home with Rev. Donnie Brown officiating assisted by the Rev. Sonnie Wiseman.

The internment will follow at Alleghany Memorial Park.

Active Pallbearers will be Billy Burns, Darrell Pulley, George Leitch, Chris Anderson, Christian Brown, Gary Gilpin, Bill Goings, and Gary Sizemore.

Graveside rites will be conducted by the Curtis A Smith Post 1033 VFW.

Friends may pay their respects at any time at Arritt Funeral Home.

The family suggests that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Mr. Pritt's name be made to the First Church of Nazarene, 336 East Parrish Street, Covington, VA 24426.

The Arritt Funeral Home, Covington, Virginia, is in charge of arrangements.
