Obituary for Ray Layne Wright Ray Layne Wright
World War II Veteran Retired From MeadWestvaco After 43 Years Of Service

Ray Layne Wright, 86, of 106 Waller Avenue, Covington, Virginia, died Friday, June 18, 2010 at Alleghany Regional Hospital in Low Moor.

He was born April 15, 1924 in Alleghany County, the second child of the late Jay Posey Wright and Maude Robinson Wright.

Mr. Wright served with the United States Army during World War II.

He retired from the Carpenter Gang at MeadWestvaco after 43 years of service. He was for many years a self employed building contractor.

Mr. Wright was an active member of the McDonalds' Breakfast Club at Mallow Mall.

He was preceded in death by a his wife, Lois Johnson Wright in 2000; a son, William L. "Bill" Wright in 2006 and a brother, Jay Payne Wright in 2002.

Surviving are two daughters, Dorothy "Dot" Lilly and her husband, Jack of Nimitz, West Virginia and Susie Boyd and her husband, Barry of Check; five grandchildren, Rick Lacks of Covington; Michael Lilly; Gary Lilly; Tony Lilly and Laura Lilly, all of Nimitz, WV; Lisa Wright of Harrisonburg; William Wright, Jr. of Roanoke and Laura Lemons of Covington; a number of great grandchildren; one brother, Charles Wright of Crozet; three sisters, Rosemary Craft and her husband, John of Covington; Shirley Bess of Daleville and Carol Phillipe and her husband, Joe of Mills River, NC; and a number of nieces and nephews.

The funeral service will be held Monday , June 21, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. in the Arritt Funeral Home Chapel.

The interment will be made in Cedar Hill Cemetery.

The family will receive their friends for one hour prior to service time at Arritt Funeral Home.
