Rockbridge County Native Dies At Age 93

Clessie Hostetter Chaplin, 93, of Glasgow, died Monday, June 21, 2010 at Heritage Hall.

Born September 7, 1916 in Rockbridge County, she was the daughter of the late Robert Tyler Hostetter and Nervie Higgins Hostetter.

In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by a son, Ray Higgins.

She is survived by her husband, Bennie Gilbert Chaplin, Sr.; five daughters: Eleanor Wallace; Linda Hickman and husband, Ray; Darlene Jarvis and husband, Dwight; Joyce Ann Fitchett and husband, George; Garneth Higgins and husband, Gene; one son, Bennie G. Chaplin, Jr.; one brother, James Hostetter; one sister, Irene Clark; fifteen grandchildren; twenty two great grandchildren; seven great-great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be conducted 11 a.m., Thursday, June 24, 2010 at Harrison Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Jim Giles and Rev. James Williams officiating. Burial will follow in the Ebenezer A.R.P. Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, June 23, 2010 at Harrison Funeral Home, and other times at the home of Bennie & Clessie. Contributions may be made to the Ebenezer A.R.P. Church or the Heritage Hall Resident Aide Fund.

Arrangements are being handled by Harrison Funeral Home & Crematory, Lexington, VA.
