Botetourt County Native Was CNA At The Old C&O Hospital

Olivia Brown Loan Sparks, age 94, formerly of the Callaghan area, died July 7, 2010 at the Woodlands Nursing Home in Clifton Forge, Virginia.

She was the wife of the late James Leslie Loan and Paul M. Sparks.

Mrs. Sparks was born January 25, 1916 in Botetourt County, the daughter of the late James and Ida Broughman Brown.

She worked as a Certified Nursing Assistant in Central Supply at the old C& O Hospital for many years.

Mrs. Sparks was a member of First Christian Church and enjoyed quilting and taking care of her animals.

She is survived by her children, Dorothy Loan Simmons of Covington, James L. Loan Jr. of Hixson, Tenn., Sylvia Loan Barnes and husband, Richard of Richmond, Va. and Bobby Sparks and wife, Lisha of Keyser, W Va.; grandchildren: James Simmons and wife, Laura, James Loan III, Rebecca Neal and husband, Mike of Tampa, Fla., Cory Sparks and a special friend, Peggy Sparks.

Mrs. Sparks was preceded in death by her brothers: Ernest Brown and Larry Brown; sisters: Lola Hinte, Fannie Angle, May Clifton, Mamie Martin, Ethel Brown, Edith Ailstock and Helen Ailstock.

A funeral service was conducted at 2:00 p.m. Friday July 9, 2010 in the Chapel of Loving Funeral Home with Rev. Bill Gilliland officiating. Interment followed in Cedar Hill Cemetery.

The family received friends Thursday at Loving Funeral Home.
