Obituary for Joe Lewis Wallace Joe Lewis Wallace
Avid Sportsman Was Alleghany Public Works Employee

Joe Lewis Wallace, age 60, of 2109 State Avenue, Cliftondale Park, Clifton Forge, Virginia, died Wednesday, July 7, 2010 at Alleghany Regional Hospital, Low Moor.

He was born July 26, 1949 in Clifton Forge, Virginia, to the late Bernard Burks and Ethel D. Wallace.

He was a truck driver for Alleghany County Public Works Department.

As a member of Twin Oaks Hunt Club, Joe was a skillful deer and turkey hunter and enjoyed sharing hunting stories around the area. Well-known and well-loved throughout the Alleghany Highlands, he was a friend to everyone in the community, never meeting a stranger.

He was of the Christian faith.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Jerome Wallace and Leonard Wallace, and a niece, Carleen Hamm.

He is survived by his special adopted parents and life-long friends, Maye and Tommy Vess of Cliftondale Park, Clifton Forge; two sisters, Josephine L. Wallace Hamm and husband, Carl of Low Moor and Louise Wallace of Roanoke; nieces and nephews, Dawn Hamm, Keisha Wallace, Jemillea Wallace, Derek Wallace and Correll Wallace; special friends, Lewis Pendleton of Clifton Forge, Bill and Cindy Atkins of Clifton Forge, Barry and Betty Atkins of Clifton Forge, Delores Quarles of Covington, James Thomas of Clifton Forge, Keith Atkins of Clifton Forge, and Deborah Hurt of Clifton Forge; a number of cousins; and his companion Kitty Cat.

A funeral service was held on Sunday at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel of Nicely Funeral Home, Clifton Forge with Reverend Doug Moore and Reverend Matthew T. Barnette officiating. Interment followed in Mountain View Cemetery, Clifton Forge. Pallbearers will be Lewis Pendleton, James Thomas, and other friends attending the service. Friends may call any time at Nicely Funeral Home. The family received friends Saturday evening at the funeral home.
