World War II Veterans Was Retired C&O Clerk

Calvin Clifford Staton, age 86, of 45 Granville Avenue, Clifton Forge, Virginia, died Wednesday, July 14, 2010 at his residence.

He was born on October 8, 1923 in Buena Vista, Virginia, a son of the late Clifford Mapp Staton and Effie May Campbell Staton.

He served in the United States Army during World War II and was a retired clerk for the Chesapeake and Ohio Railroad.

He enjoyed golf, was a member of the Cliftondale Country Club for a number of years, was a life member and previous captain of the Clifton Forge Rescue Squad, and a member of the Clifton Forge Baptist Church, where he was in the church choir, the men's bible class, and was a past deacon.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Frances Fout Staton in December of 1994, two brothers and two sisters.

He is survived by his wife, Rebecca "Becky" Humphries Greene Staton of Clifton Forge; two daughters, Terrie Wright and husband, Stanley of Clifton Forge and Sue Reynolds and husband, George of Ivy; two step sons, Bruce Greene of Leesburg and Ricky Greene of Greensboro; a step daughter, Tina Haggerty of Clifton Forge; four grandchildren, Gene Wright and wife, Robin, Linda Pezzella and husband, Thomas, Lance Reynolds and wife, Kristi, and Paul Reynolds and wife, Janet; six great grandchildren, Capp Reynolds, Joy Reynolds, Cory Wright, Carrigan Wright, Matthew Pezzella, and Jacob Pezzella; and a number of nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held on Saturday at 11:00 a.m. in the chapel of Nicely Funeral Home, Clifton Forge with Reverend J. Glenn Linthicum officiating. Interment will follow in Alleghany Memorial Park, Low Moor. Pallbearers will be the grandsons, Gene Wright, Lance Reynolds, Paul Reynolds, and Tommy Pezzella, as well as friends Alan Dale Craft, Joe Furry, and Ed Woodson.

The family will receive friends on Friday evening from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Nicely Funeral Home and other times at the residence, 45 Granville Avenue, Clifton Forge, VA or the home of Terrie and Stanley Wright, 1039 Cliftwood Circle, Clifton Forge, VA.
